MILWAUKEE, WIS. – The Eagles continued their Wisconsin swing playing their second game in five days in the cheese state. For the Eagles, though, it was much of the same as the women’s basketball team dropped their third straight game, losing 55-52 to the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
The back and forth contest saw no team take too much of an advantage. Benedictine (3-5, 1-3 in Northern Athletics Conference) came out quickly jumping to an early 11-2 lead.
The Eagles kept charging as a Karyn Conerty three-pointer midway through the first half gave the Eagles a 23-11 advantage, that would unfortunately be their biggest lead of the night. Conerty ended the night with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting including 5-of-11 night from beyond the arc.
MSOE (3-4, 3-1 in NAC) stormed back, ended out the first half on a 10-0 run.
In the second stanza, again it was the Raiders of MSOE taking the advantage opening up the second half on a 14-4 run.
The teams traded baskets through much of the second as Benedictine senior Monika Krozel scored 10 of her 14 points in the half.
Down 51-46 with just a minute remaining, the Lady Eagles kicked it into overdrive, with consecutive three pointers from Conerty and Krozel cutting the Benedictine deficit to one with just seven seconds left.
MSOE’s Megan Syversen stepped up to the line with the chance to seal the deal for the Raiders hitting both of her free throws raising the Eagle deficit to three.
With only five seconds left and a chance only for a heave, the Eagles were unfortunately not able to get a shot off, ending the contest and handing the Eagles their third consecutive NAC loss.
Conerty again led the Eagles in scoring as she continues to have a standout season, while Krozel Jenn Bren (10 points, 11 rebounds) were the other Eagles in double digits.
Benedictine will return “home” this weekend, with a 2:00 p.m. tip-off against NAC foe Edgewood at Elmhurst College.
