PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The Benedictine University football team scored 32 points in the second half to help them defeat Lakeland College 46-21 and remain undefeated in the Northern Athletics Conference.
The win moves the Eagles to 6-2 overall and 5-0 in conference while Lakeland falls to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the NAC.
The Muskies took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Jake Dowrak to Jeremy Williams. Benedictine countered with two touchdowns from
John Borsellino at the end of the quarter, the first a three-yard run and the second an 18-yard pass from
Preston Earl which resulted from a
Trent Altieri interception to give the Eagles a 14-7 lead going into the second quarter.
The Muskies would not give up, putting together a 55-yard drive on nine plays that took 3:55 off the clock and tied the game at 14-all going into halftime.
The Eagles came out strong in the second half, going 73-yards on eight plays which resulted in another Borsellino touchdown. After an LJ Stolarski field goal, BenU took a 21-14 lead.
Lakeland would tie the game less than three minutes later on a 68-yard drive and 40-yard run from Dworak. The Eagles defense came alive and shut out LC the remainder of the game, allowing Borsellino to put BenU up 28-21 at the end of the third quarter on a five-yard touchdown pass from Earl.
After
Joe Barger tallied a sac and set up the Eagle offense on the LC 49-yard line, Earl found Brandin Austin in the end zone on a 49-yard touchdown pass to put the Eagles up 40-21.
Eric Ritter found the end zone just minutes earlier on a one-yard run .
Matt McWilliams collected his second interception of the day at the end of the game, running it back 25-yards to secure the Eagles 46-21 over the Muskies.
Benedictine totaled 332 yards, 128 rushing and 204 passing and were led by Borsellino who tallied 105 yards rushing on 31 attempts while Austin totaled 105 receiving yards on six catches.
Defensively, the Eagles continued their dominance with Altieri leading the team with eight total tackles and
Tim Shanahan tallying six solo tackles.
