LISLE, Ill. –
Jenn Bren scored a game high 19 points to help lead the Benedictine University women's basketball team to a 73-64 win over non-conference opponent, North Central College, on Tuesday night in the Dan and Ada Rice Center.
The win moves the Eagles to 5-3 on the season while the Cardinals fall to 3-7 overall.
Benedictine held a 33-25 lead at halftime, out-shooting NCC 41.9 percent (13-for-31) to 34.4 percent (11-for-32). The Eagles started off strong, going up by as many as eight with seven minutes remaining and held on to that lead for the remainder of the half.
A three-pointer from
Tracey Walsh in the second half gave BenU a 13-point lead, their biggest lead of the night with 16:37 left in the game.
North Central did not give up, coming within two points with nine minutes remaining but the Eagles defense stayed strong, forcing three turnovers in the final minutes to secure the 73-64 victory.
Bren came just shy of a double-double with a game high 19 points and nine rebounds while Walsh and
Jillian Lipman also scored in double figures with 15 and 11 points.
Christine Karl led the Cardinals with 17 points.
As a team, Benedictine shot 51.4 percent from the floor (29-for-56) and 42.1 percent from behind the arc (8-for-19). The Eagles were barely out-rebounded by NCC 36-35.
The women's basketball team is back in action on Wednesday, December 29 against Nebraska Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m. in the Rice Center.
