WINTERHAVEN, Fla. - The Benedictine University baseball team kicked off the 2010 season by falling to Webster University 2-1 in the opener of its spring trip.
Jake Thompson took the ball on the mound for the Eagles in the season opener, allowing an unearned run in the fourth to put the Gorloks ahead 1-0. Thompson threw eight inning in his first start of the season and did not factor in the decision.
Kevin Hendricks tied the game for Benedictine in the seventh inning, coming off the bench to post a triple in a pinch-hit role.
Webster walked off with the win in the ninth inning, recording a game-ending sacrifice fly.
Dan Jedlowski suffered the loss.
Webster has won three consecutive titles in the SLIAC.
