LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University softball team improved to 4-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference by sweeping Alverno College on Saturday afternoon.
BENEDICTINE 8, ALVERNO 0 -- Game One (Five Innings)
The Eagles broke open a scoreless game with an eight-run bottom of the fourth to account for the entire offensive output of the first game.
Brittany Adcox (Plainfield, Ill.) finished her second start of the week. Adcox, the two-time NAC Pitcher of the Week, allowed just four hits while striking out seven.
The eight-run burst began with a double off the bat of
Kara Walsh (Oak Forest, Ill.). With runners at second and third,
Sam Corban (Plainfield, Ill.) drove in the first run with a squeeze bunt.
Brittany Adcox helped her cause with a triple deep down the line in left to knock home two runs. Adcox scored on a single off the bat of
Aimee Mahoney (Gardner, Ill.).
Brittany Wolski (Orland Park, Ill.) continued the assault with a two-run double.
Erin Galloway (Dwight, Ill.) contributed to the scoring by coaxing a bases loaded walk, and Corban drove in another run with an RBI single to finish the frame.
The Eagles posted seven hits in the win.
Laura Christensen (Orland Park, Ill.) was the lone player to post more than one hit, finishing 2-for-3 out of the leadoff slot with a triple and a run scored. Wolski, Corban, and Adcox all drove in two runs each. Benedictine also stole seven bases in the game.
Brittany Wolski accounted for two of those.
BENEDICTINE 9, ALVERNO 2 -- Game Two
Benedictine scored all of its runs in the first three innings, including five runs in the second, in recording the sweep.
Laura Christensen started the game with a single to left and moved up on an error. She was sacrificed to third and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Kara Walsh. The Eagles added another first inning run on a wild pitch.
Five runs scored in the second to put the game out of reach.
Steff Rybarczyk (Chicago, Ill.) singled and stole second.
Aimee Mahoney dropped a bunt single to place runners on the corners. A groundout scored the first run and another crossed on a wild pitch.
Kara Walsh singled home the third run of the inning while Cassie Capetto doubled in the fourth. The final run crossed when
Sam Corban singled up the middle.
Benedictine finished the scoring with two runs in the third. Mahoney led off with a triple and scored on a single up the middle by
Laura Christensen. Christensen scored from second on a base hit by
Kara Walsh.
Sam Corban started and twirled three no-hit innings but did not record the minimal innings for a win. She struck out four.
Kaitlin Walsh (Schaumburg, Ill.) relieved her and threw the final four frames, picking up her third win of the season.
Cassie Cappetto posted three of the 13 hits for the Eagles by going 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Kara Walsh finished with two hits and three RBIs. Christensen, Rybarczyk, and Mahoney also had two hits apiece in the victory, the sixth straight for Benedictine. Wolski stole three bases in the game and five in the doubleheader.
The Eagles (15-4, 4-0) will continue NAC play on Sunday afternoon by visiting Dominican University.
