LISLE, Ill. -- The Benedictine University softball team ran its season best win streak to 12 games by sweeping Concordia Chicago in NAC play on Wednesday, allowing just six hits combined in the two victories.
BENEDICTINE 11, CONCORDIA CHICAGO 0 -- Game One (Five Innings)
Brittany Adcox continued her dominance of the NAC by shutting out the Cougars in a complete game effort.
Adcox struck out eight batters in five innings of work to pick up her 11th win of the season. She did not allow a hit until the third and faced the minimum through the first 3.2 innings. Adcox surrendered just three hits in the game.
The Eagles scored three first inning runs to boost the support of Adcox in the circle.
Brittany Wolski recorded a one-out single and stole the first of three bases in the game. She scored on a
Kara Walsh single.
Cassie Cappetto notched her first triple of the season to plate Walsh and the scored herself when
Erin Galloway singled.
Consecutive doubles allowed two more runs to score in the third. With two outs and Wolski in scoring position, Cappetto doubled her home and crossed the plate herself on a double off the bat of Galloway.
The fury continued with a six-run outburst in the fourth to account for the final score.
Laura Christensen recorded her first hit of the game to drive in a pair with a single. Cappetto also recorded a two-run single in the frame while Galloway and
Sam Corban posted run-scoring singles.
The Eagles amassed 13 hits in the game. Cappetto and Galloway were each a perfect 3-for-3. Cappetto scored three times and drove in four.
BENEDICTINE 8, CONCORDIA CHICAGO 0 -- Game Two (Five Innings)
Scoring runs in every inning but the first, the Eagles secured the sweep.
Benedictine started the scoring with a single run in the second.
Sam Corban coaxed a leadoff walk and stole second.
Jess Fijolek opened the scoring with an RBI single to center. With two outs in the third a run scored on an error and Corban helped her own cause with a run-scoring single.
Corban tallied her fifth victory of the season with her first complete game shutout. Corban scattered three hits while walking two and striking out three.
Fijolek doubled to start the fourth and scored on a two-out double by
Brittany Wolski. The Eagles ended the game in the fifth inning with four runs, taking advantage of a pair of errors.
Steff Rybarczyk and Wolski posted two-run singles.
Wolski was 4-for-4 at the plate and added two more stolen bases to go with three RBIs. Fijolek finished 2-for-2 along with Corban.
Benedictine (21-4, 10-0) will host Maranatha (3-14, 0-8) at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
