GAME ONE
GAME TWO

VERONA, Wis. -- The Benedictine University baseball team put up 26 runs on 21 hits in a lengthy doubleheader split with Edgewood College on the road Thursday night.

EDGEWOOD 17, BENEDICTINE 12 -- Game One
The Eagles plated four runs in the top of the first inning but Edgewood responded by scoring in every inning of the game to post the opening victory.

Three batters drew walks in the top of the first to load the bases with two outs for Colin Gilreath. Gilreath responded with his first homer of the season, a grand slam to left-center, putting the Eagles on top 4-0.

Edgewood responded with a run in the bottom of the first and put up a five-slot in the second to take a 6-4 lead. Benedictine responded with two in the third to tie the game. Gino Miglio doubled with one out and two straight walks loaded the bases. One run came across on a sacrifice fly by Tim GIndville and another scored on an error.

Edgewood retook the lead in the bottom of the inning and scored seven unanswered to take a 13-6 lead into the seventh. Benedictine cut it to 13-9 with three in the top of the seventh. With the bases loaded a run scored on an groundout. The second and third runs crossed on a wild pitch. Edgewood responded with more more runs to grab a 17-9 lead.

Benedictine plated three runs in the ninth ignited by a leadoff homer off the bat of Gilreath, his second of the game. Gilreath was the lone player to record more than one hit in the first contest, finishing 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a pair of homers, and five RBIs.

BENEDICTINE 14, EDGEWOOD 9 -- Game Two
The Eagles jumped on the board with two first inning runs before Edgewood replied with four unanswered, but in game two Benedictine was able to bounce back, scoring at least one run in the final six innings to salvage a split in a game that was stopped for an hour due to weather.

Colin Gilreath helped power the first inning again. With two outs, Gilreath doubled home Derek Klinetobe with the first run. Dan Zust singled home the second.

Edgewood came back with two runs in the second and third. Benedictine scored three in the fourth to go up 5-4. Mike Loni drove in the first run with a two-out single. Klinetobe doubled in two. Edgewood again countered, putting up four runs to go up 8-5.

Benedictine responded with five unaswered over the next two innings to take a 10-8 lead they would not relinquish. Josh Zenawick tripled in each inning to help set the tone.

Derek Klinetobe recorded three hits and drove in three to lead a 14-hit attack. Mike Loni also notched three hits and drove in two.

Benedictine (10-13, 5-3) will host Marian on Saturday in a doubleheader that begins at 12:00 p.m.
