Mequon, Wisconsin – The Benedictine men’s baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Concordia University Wisconsin Sunday. The losses dropped Benedictine to 12-15 overall and 7-5 in Northern Athletics Conference play.

Game One -- CONCORDIA WISCONSIN 12, BENEDICTINE 1 (7 Innings)

Concordia (15-9, 9-3 in NAC) jumped on Benedictine early, scoring three runs in the first inning, two in the second and four in the third.

However, Soto did strike out three batters in the losing effort. Reliever Matt Vucovich pitched a perfect sixth inning.

Offensively, Benedictine scattered four hits over seven innings.

Tim Gindville drove in the lone Benedictine run, knocking in Jimmy Janchenko with a single in the seventh. Janchenko led off the seventh with a double.

Nick Karakosta and Kevin Hendricks also collected hits.

Game Two -- CONCORDIA WISCONSIN 4, BENEDICTINE 3

Concordia narrowly escaped a seventh-inning Benedictine rally to hang onto the victory in the second game of the doubleheader Sunday.

Kevin Hendricks and Jimmy Janchenko continued their hot streaks at the plate, collecting two hits each on the day.

Rob Grabek took the loss, but pitched a solid six innings giving up only four runs (one earned) striking out five.

Relievers Phil Palmisano, Dan Jedlowski, Pat Collis and Michael Cottier combined for two innings of scoreless ball out of the bullpen.

Benedictine took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Mike Loni drove in Janchenko. Janchenko started the rally with a one-out single.

Loni would eventually come around to score on a Nick Karakosta double.

Concordia responded with a run of its own in the second inning while adding another run in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Benedictine rallied in the seventh inning when Dan Zust’s groundout allowed Kevin Hendricks to score.

Karakosta’s groundout ended the inning, leaving two Benedictine runs stranded.

Benedictine returns to the field Wednesday, April 21 when it hosts Augustana College at 7:00 p.m. at the Sports Complex.
