LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University softball team opened play in the Northern Athletics Conference by sweeping past Wisconsin Lutheran at home on Friday afternoon in a pair of shortened games 19-2 and 19-0.
BENEDICTINE 19, WISCONSIN LUTHERAN 2 (Five Innings) -- Game One
Benedictine scored at least one run in every inning, getting everyone involved in a 17-hit effort to cruise to the opening win.
The Eagles wasted no time in setting the tone of the contest. After leaving a pair of runners on base in the top of the first inning, the bats needed just three hitters to drive home the first run. Benedictine sent 14 batters to the plate in the opening frame, jumping on the visitors for nine runs.
Kara Walsh drove in the first run with a single.
Lisa Rybak plated two with a double while
Sam Corban and
Brittany Wolski also doubled home runs in the opening outburst.
The run support was more than enough for
Brittany Adcox in the circle. Adcox tossed four innings and allowed just three hits while striking out four to post her sixth victory of the season.
Benedictine added six runs in the second, sending 11 to the plate.
Brittany Wolski and
Kara Walsh drove home runs with singles while pinch hitters
Kaitlin Mitchell and
Stephanie Werner followed suit, knocking in their first runs of the year.
Wolski doubled in two of three runs in the second while Mitchell tacked on another. The final run scored in the bottom of the fourth on a single by
Lisa Hodges. The Warriors scored their two runs in the fifth inning against reliever Brittany Carnell.
11 different players tallied a hit in the win. Wolski and Walsh each had three hits. Wolski drove in four runs with Wolski plating three. Mitchell and Corban also posted multi-hit games with two apiece.
BENEDICTINE 19, WISCONSIN LUTHERAN 0 (Five Innings) -- Game Two
Kaitlin Walsh and
Sam Corban combined on a shortened shutout, allowing just two hits in the contest.
Benedictine plated six runs in the second inning to take the lead early for the second straight contest after WIsconsin Lutheran left the bases loaded in the first.
Sam Corban helped her own cause by driving in the game's first run with a single.
Kara Walsh drove in two runs with a single in the inning as well.
The Eagles tacked on three more in the third.
Aimee Mahoney doubled in a run while
Brittany Wolski single a run across. Benedictine put the game out of reach by scoring a season high 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth as 16 batters came to the plate.
Benedictine put up 14 hits in the contest.
Lisa Rybak was 3-for-4.
Brittany Wolski,
Cassie Cappetto,
Sam Corban, and
Aimee Mahoney all had two hits in the game as eight different individuals notched hits.
Kara Walsh drove in three runs while
Erin Galloway and
Sam Corban each scored three times.
Corban earned her first win of the season in relief, allowing just one hit in 3.1 innings of work to go with four strikeouts.
Benedictine (11-4, 2-0) takes to the road for its first NAC contest away from home on Tuesday. The Eagles will meet Rockford College at 3:00 p.m. in a twin bill.
