LISLE, Ill. -- The Benedictine University baseball team returned to its winnings ways in a single makeup game with Dominican University, scoring a 7-3 victory at the Sports Complex on Thursday night.
With winds gusting near 40 mph in from right, flyballs became an adventure. Benedictine was able to take advantage in opening the scoring in the fourth.
Kevin Hendricks reached on a wind-aided double and was sacrificed to third.
Tim Gindville put the Eagles in front with a double to center. Benedictine had an earlier chance but had a run thrown out at the plate.
Dominican answered with a pair of runs in odd fashion in the top of the fifth to open a 2-1 lead. With the bases loaded Gage DeAngelis struck out swinging, but the pitch got away and enabled two runs to score as Benedictine thought the pitch was fouled off. Dominican added to the lead with another run in the sixth. Chad Polak singled home Chris Anderson with two outs.
Benedictine countered, plating three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead.
Gino Miglio led off the inning with a double down the right field line and scored when
Tim Gindville drove in his second run of the night with a single down the line in right.
Josh Zenawick knotted the score with a bases loaded single to chase Dominican's starter, Zack Roszak. The final run crossed on a wild pitch.
The Eagles pushed across three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Kevin Hendricks drove in a run as did pinch-hitter and NAC Player of the Week
Tom Higgins, shooting a liner through the drawn in infield.
Mike Loni singled sharply down the first base line with two outs to account for the final tally.
Phil Palmisano started for Benedictine and threw five innings, allowing two runs on five hits, walking a pair and striking out five.
Dan Jedlowski earned the win, tossing 2.2 innings of relief.
The Eagles will begin a busy weekend on Saturday with a doubleheader at Concordia Chicago. The Cougars (25-8, 11-5) currently occupy the third slot in the NAC.
