LISLE, Ill. -- The Benedictine University baseball team was swept by Aurora University on Sunday afternoon at the Sports Complex.
AURORA 18, BENEDICTINE 5 -- GAME ONE (SEVEN INNINGS)
Aurora scored six runs in the first inning, all with two outs, and never looked back in securing a huge victory in the fight for the NAC Tournament. The Spartans belted three homers in the contest.
The big blow in the first inning occured when Joe Singraber hit the first of those three homers, a two-run blast to push the advantage to 6-0 following a two-run double off the bat of Tim Mackey.
Aurora tacked on a run in the second and stretched the lead to 11-0 with four third inning runs. Benedictine scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning as
Tom Higgins parked a two-out homer over the wall in right.
Down 16-1, the Eagles scored in each of their final three plate appearances.
Jeremy Spears drove in a run with a pinch-hit single in the fifth.
Nick Perry also posted a run-scoring single as a pinch-hitter in the sixth.
Chris Wanderling plated the final run of the game for Benedictine with an RBI fielder's choice in the seventh.
Benedictine reached double-digit hits in the contest with 10.
Tom Higgins and
Jeremy Spears each recorded a pair of hits in the contest.
AURORA 10, BENEDICTINE 1 -- GAME TWO
Aurora blew open a close game with six runs in the fifth inning to take control of the contest.
The Spartans netted single runs in the second and fourth against Benedictine starter Nick DePaul before turning in six runs in the fifth. Benedictine's lone run scored in the bottom of the sixth.
Gino Miglio started the rally with a single and
Tim Gindville followed with a double to the wall in right.
Mike Loni lifted a sacrifice fly to score the lone run.
Mitch McMeen,
Gino Miglio, and
Tim Gindville recorded two hits each in the defeat.
Benedictine will play its final road game of the season on Tuesday with a contest at North Park University scheduled for 5:30 p.m. North Park (24-12) edged Benedictine 4-3 in Lisle back on March 24. The Vikings presently sit in second place in the CCIW.
