MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Despite taking a 34-32 halftime lead, the Benedictine University women's basketball team was outscored 46-17 in the second half, falling 78-51 to Wisconsin Lutheran College on Saturday afternoon in Northern Athletics Conference action.
Wisconsin Lutheran (10-1, 5-0) led for most of the first half, going up by as many as six. The Eagles ( 7-4, 3-2) tied the game with five minutes remaining with back-to-back three's from
Brittany Armato and took a six point lead with just under a minute remaining.
Wisconsin Lutheran hit two jumpers with 30 seconds remaining to cut their deficit to 34-32 at the half.
The Warriors tied the game to start the second half and quickly jumped out to a 12-point lead with jumpers from Erika Laete.
Benedictine was just 5-for-27 from the field in the second half and 0-for-6 from behind the arc. Wisconsin Lutheran caught fire and went up by as many as 28 with three minutes left in the game, eventually taking home the 78-51 victory.
As a team, Benedictine shot 29.6 percent (16-for-54) and was out-rebounded 46-29. Both teams had 16 turnovers.
The Warriors were led by Laete who scored a game high 18 points.
Benedictine women's basketball is back in action on Tuesday, January 11 when they travel to Dominican University for a 7:00 p.m. game.
