Walsh Surpasses 1,000 Points; Eagles Topple North Central

Box Score NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Benedictine University senior Tracey Walsh passed 1,000 points as the women's basketball team took down North Central on the road 62-60 to win consecutive games for the first time this season.

Benedictine slumped out of the gates, falling behind 8-0 in the first three minutes before finally scoring. The Eagles trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half before rallying. Walsh recorded her 1,000th point on a jumper with 1:57 left in the half that brought Benedictine within 35-30. The Eagles closed the half on an 11-4 run to pull within 35-32 at the break.

North Central scored the first five points of the second half, holding Benedictine scoreless until the 16:02 mark of the second on a Jillian Lipman layup. Michelle Gaede finished a 10-3 run with a jumper to put Benedictine ahead for the first time with 12:20 to play at 44-43. The run continued as Benedictine moved ahead 48-43 with 10:03 remaining.

The hosts held the lead until Michelle Gaede converted on a layup with 1:57 left to put Benedictine ahead 61-60. Megan Novak hit a free throw to account for the final margin.

Gaede led three Eagles in double figures, scoring a game best 18 and also stabbed eight rebounds. Walsh contributed 11 an Katie Hunzinger also added 11. Benedictine shot 42.1 percent for the game.

The Eagles (4-8) return to play at the Rice Center on Saturday, January 7, at 2:00 p.m. against Wisconsin Lutheran, the leaders of the North Division.
