LISLE, Ill. – After a tough loss on Saturday in the Northern Athletics Conference Challenge game, the women's basketball team looks to bounce back in the first round of the NAC tournament Tuesday night when they face off against the No. 5 seed, Edgewood College at 7:00 p.m. in the Dan and Ada Rice Center. In their last match-up back in December, BenU (15-9, 11-6) won a nail-biter 67-66 over Edgewood (14-11, 12-6). Edgewood shot 45.6 percent from the field to Benedictine's 40.4 percent. However, our Eagles dominated on the boards, out-rebounding their opponents 43-33 throughout the game.
Junior
Tracey Walsh scored a game-high 22 points on 7-13 shooting. She also had two steals and two assists. Senior
Lidia Arias tallied ten points (3-6), nine rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and a steal, just one rebound shy of a double-double.
For Edgewood, Brittany Bylsma led the way with 14 points (6-8) and four assists. Alison Tobin had a double-double with ten points (4-7) and 11 rebounds on the night. As a team, EC is first in the NAC in offensive rebounding at 15.2 a game. They are also third in steals with 11 a game.
Last season, BenU ended Edgewood's season in the first round of the tournament here at the Rice Center. Like this year, BenU was the fourth seed while Edgewood was the fifth. With seemingly everything matching up identically to last season's first round of the tournament, BenU hopes for a similar outcome for tomorrow night's game.
The winner of the game will play again on Thursday, Feb. 24 against either the No. 1 seed, Wisconsin Lutheran, or the No. 8 seed, Milwaukee School of Engineering.
