ORLANDO, Fla. - The Benedictine University softball team opened the 2011 season in Orlando, Fla. where they picked up two wins. In the first game the Eagles defeated Washington & Jefferson College 12-1 and then went on to beat Frostburg State 3-1.
Against Washington & Jefferson,
Sam Corban received her first win of the season, pitching six innings and only allowing five hits with five strikeouts for the shutout. The senior pitcher also made an impact at the plate, going 1-2 with a double, a stolen base and two runs scored.
Junior
Brittany Adcox was a huge asset to the Eagles 12 runs, going 4-4 with two doubles, belting her first home run of the year, scoring three runs and tallying four RBI.
Jess Fijolek was 2-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.
In game two, Adcox took to the mound, pitching seven complete innings and only allowing three hits with 10 strikeouts.
At the plate,
Cassie Cappetto was 1-2 with a double, a walk and a run scored while
Steff Rybarczyk was also 1-2 with an RBI double and a stolen base. Corban scored two runs in game two, going 1-3 with two solen bases.
Benedictine continues their spring break trip in Orlando, Fla. tomorrow afternoon when they battle Kalamazoo College at 1:30 p.m. and Buena Vista University at 5:30 p.m.
