LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University baseball team dropped a 5-1 decision in their home opener to North Park University on Tuesday afternoon at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex.
North Park took an early 2-0 lead after scoring two runs off of three hits in the first inning. The Eagles (6-7) would answer back in the third when
Kevin Hendricks singled to center field, driving in
Chris Wanderling who had walked to lead off the inning.
Both teams would remain scorless for the next three innings until the Vikings put another run on the board in the seventh and add two more in the ninth inning.
In the bottom of the frame,
Tom Higgins singled to lead off followed by a walk from
Jack Holden. With two on and no outs, NPU's Nick Soldano forced two strikeouts and a pop up to end the game.
Matt Strle received the loss for BenU, giving up six hits in 6.0 innings. For the Eagles,
Josh Zenawick was 2-5 while
Dan Zust was 2-4 with a double.
Pete Sparacino picked up the win for North Park, allowing six hits with eight strikeouts in 7.2 innings.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday afternoon when they travel to Maranatha Baptist Bible College for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
