LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University softball team won both games of a doubleheader against Wheaton College on Wednesday night at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex. The Eagles won the first game, 2-0, and were victorious in the nightcap, 4-2.
Brittany Adcox picked up the win for the Eagles in game one, tallying five strikeouts in seven innings.
Benedictine tallied the first run of the game in the fifth inning after
Jenna Gonzales singled to right field, scoring Adcox who had a stolen base in the inning. In the sixth,
Kara Walsh scored
Brittany Wolski on a sac fly to secure the 2-0 win.
The Eagles only had two hits in the game compared to Wheaton's five, but the Thunder left three runners on base.
In game two, it was Wheaton who got on the board first, taking an early 2-0 lead off of three hits in the first inning. It wouldn't take long for the Eagles to tie the game in the bottom of the second after
Cassie Cappetto led off with a double to left field. After
Sam Corban walked, Adcox advanced the runners on a sac bunt.
Steff Rybarczyk drove in one run on the next at bat and Corban scored on a wild pitch to even the score at 2-2.
In the fourth inning, BenU took the lead after Rybarczyk and Gonzales singled. In the next at bat
Jess Fijolek drove in both runs with a triple to center field to give the Eagles a two-run advantage.
Wheaton had the bases loaded in the seventh inning, but the Eagles defense was too much as they went on to win 4-2.
Corban picked up the win in game two with four strikeouts in 6.1 innings while Adcox had the save. Wheaton's Danielle Schmidt received the loss, giving up six hits in 6.0 innings.
Rybarczyk was 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI while Fijolek was 1-2 with two RBI.
Benedictine softball is back in action this weekend when they travel to Wisconsin Lutheran College for a doubleheader on April 2 beginning at 12:00 p.m.
