RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Benedictine University baseball team extended their win streak to four games after sweeping Dominican University 15-4 and 10-2 on Monday afternoon at Alexian Field. The Eagles are now 9-5 in Northern Athletics Conference action.
The Eagles got on the board early, scoring four runs off of six hits in the second inning. Benedictine had another big inning in the third when
Tim Gindville led off with a single down the left field line. After Josh Zenwick reached on a Dominican error,
Jack Holden drove in the first run.
Chris Wanderling kept the offensive momentum going when
Chris Wanderling singled to left and
Dan Zust followed with a double to right center, driving in two more runs.
Nick Karakosta drove in the final two runs with a single to left field to give BenU the 9-0 lead.
Dominican scored two runs in the bottom of the frame and two more in the seventh but the Eagles used a six-run ninth inning including a double from
Mike Luschen to take home the 15-4 win.
Hurler
Kevin Crowley picked up his second win of the season, allowing 10 hits with six strikeouts in 6.0 innings. At the plate, Gindville was 2-4 while Holden, Zust and Wanderling each had three hits.
In game two,
Mark Belcastro received the win, allowing just one hit in 7.1 innings with eight strikeouts.
The Eagles were the first to score again, tallying a run in the first and three runs in the second. Benedictine went up 5-0 after scoring another run in the fifth but Dominican added two runs in the bottom fo the frame to cut the lead to 5-2.
After scoring two runs in the sixth and a run in the eighth, the Eagles secured the 10-2 win when
Ryan Welter and
Dan Zust had hits to score two more runs.
At the plate, Hendricks, Zust and Holden were 2-5.
The Eagles are on the road on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Fon du lac, Wis. to take on Marian University for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
