Baseball Thunders Past Wheaton

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University baseball team won their fifth straight game on Wednesday night, defeating Wheaton College 10-8 after a Kevin Hendricks two-run blast in the 11th inning.

Wheaton got on the board early, scoring a run in the first inning. But the Eagles answered right back in the top of thes second when Josh Zenawick homered to right center field.

Benedictine would allow Wheaton to score two more runs before putting up a run of their own in the sixth inning after hits from Nick Karakosta and Uli Ortiz.

The Eagles took the lead in the seventh, scoring three runs off of two hits. Karakosta drove in a run with a double to right center and Ortiz had a sac fly. Kevin Hendricks drove in the final run of the inning after singling up the middle.

Benedictine's offense would not quit, going up 8-3 after tallying three more runs in the eighth inning with hits from Zenawick, Chris Wanderling, Dan Zust and Karakosta.

The Thunder would tie the game in the bottom of the ninth scoring five runs off of four hits to force extra innings. Neither team would score in the 10th inning but a two-run homerun from Hendricks secured the Eagles fate, taking home the 10-8 victory.

Matt Vucovich got the start for the Eagles, giving up two hits with three strikeouts in 4.1 innings. It was Nick Diessner who received the win, his first of the year, allowing two hits in 2.1 innings. At the plate, Karakosta was 4-6 with three runs scored and two RBI while Hendricks was 2-6 with three RBI. Zenawick went 4-6 and Wanderling was 3-4.
