LISLE, Ill. – The Benedictine University softball team picked up their fourth straight Northern Athletics Conference victory after they swept Rockford College, 9-1 and 9-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex.
The Eagles (13-3, 4-0 NAC) scored two runs in the second inning that began with a double from
Steff Rybarczyk, who would steal second and then score on an error by the Regents (4-12, 2-4 NAC). The second run of the inning came from
Laura Christensen who was driven in by
Kelly Mieszala who doubled to center field.
Rockford scored their only run of the day in the third inning but the Eagles answered right back with two more runs in the bottom of the frame.
Sam Corban and
Cassie Cappetto would each score a run with singles from
Kara Walsh and Rybarczyk.
In the fourth, the Eagles added another run on two hits and would end the game in the fifth inning after scoring four runs off of six hits. Rybarczyk tallied her third hit of the game, a double to right center and advanced to third after a single from
Jess Fijolek.
Ashley Parrott and Mieszala both singled, driving in two runs while Wolski also collected an RBI-single. The winning run was driven in by
Brittany Adcox with a single through the left side.
Adcox picked up her seventh win of the year, giving up just four hits with four strikeouts in 5.0 innings. At the plate, Wolski was 3-4 with two runs and three stolen bases while Rybarczyk was 3-3 with two runs and two stolen bases.
As a team, BenU collected 14 stolen bases, a season high.
In the second game, Corban tallied her sixth win of the year, allowing just three hits with five strikeouts. At the plate, Walsh was 2-3 with two runs and Cappetto was 2-3 with three RBI.
The Eagles started off strong, tallying three runs in the first. Wolski led off with a walk and was driven in with a single from Cappetto. Rybarczyk then tripled to right center, driving in two more runs.
In the second inning, BenU's offensive threat continued, scoring four runs off of three hits from Walsh, Cappetto and Corban.
Benedictine tallied two more runs in the next two innings to secure the 9-0 victory over Rockford to remain undefeated in NAC action.
The BenU softball team is back in action on Thursday, April 7 when they travel to North Central College for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
