Baseball Sweeps Maranatha

LISLE, Ill. – The Benedictine University baseball team swept Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Northern Athletics Conference action on Thursday night at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex. The Eagles won game one 11-0 and defeated the Crusaders 10-2 in the nightcap.
 
The Eagles (10-8, 3-1 NAC) scored two runs in the first inning off of a single from Kevin Hendricks, scoring Uli Ortiz who walked earlier in the inning. Hendricks would add the final run of the inning, scoring on a wild pitch.
 
In the third, Ortiz singled to lead off the inning and was driven in on a sac fly from Matt Delgado.
 
Benedictine would tally three runs in the fourth off of four hits, including a triple from Josh Zenawick. After going scoreless in the fifth, BenU added two more runs in the sixth off of two hits and secured the 11-0 win when they scored three runs in the seventh. Mitch McMeen doubled and Tom Gindville, Mike Loni and Andrew Mullins singled.
 
Phil Palmisano picked up the win for BenU, giving up three hits in 6.0 innings and struck out four. At the plate, Kevin Hendricks was 3-4 with three RBI and Gindville was 3-4 with two runs scored. Ortiz had three stolen bases.
 
The Eagles continued their offensive threat in game two, scoring five runs in the second inning with four hits from Zenawick, Karakosta, Ortiz and Hendricks.
 
Maranatha would score one run in the bottom of the frame but BenU answered right back with a run in the third.
 
Up 6-1, the Eagles used a four-run fourth inning to take the 10-1 lead and never look back to secure the sweep over Maranatha.
 
Robert Grabek received the win, giving up just two hits and striking out one in 5.0 innings. Nick Diessner had three strikeouts in 2.0 innings. At the plate, Ortiz was 2-3 with two runs while Jeff Ferstein and McMeen were both 1-2.
 
The Eagles are on the road on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Lakeland College for a NAC doubleheader.
