Baseball Splits at Lakeland

PLYMOUTH, Wis. - After battling for a 10-9 victory over 11 innings in game one, the Benedictine University baseball team fell 3-2 to Lakeland College in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

Mike Cottier picked up the win for BenU (11-9, 4-2 NAC) in the first game, pitching 3.0 innings in relief, giving up three hits and three strikeouts.

The Eagles came from behind to score six runs in the six inning and Kevin Hendricks drove in the winning run in the top of the 11th. Hendricks was 6-7 with two runs and two RBI while Josh Zenawick was 2-5 with three RBI and two runs. Mitch McMeen was 2-5 with two RBI.

In game two, it was BenU who scored first but Lakeland (6-10, 1-5 NAC) scored two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth. Benedictine rallied back in the ninth to score a run but it wasn't enough as Lakeland went on to win 3-2.

Nick Karakosta was 2-5 with an RBI and a run. Hendricks was 2-4 with an RBI while Dan Zust was 2-4. Mark Belcastro received the loss alloing eight hits and pitched six strikeouts in 8.0 innings.

Benedictine baseball is back in action on Sunday afternoon when they host Wisconsin Lutheran College at 1:00 p.m.
