Eagles Upset No. 1 Seeded Concordia-Chicago

LISLE, Ill. - Three Benedictine University baseball players had homeruns in the Eagles 13-3 win over the No. 1 seeded Concordia University-Chicago in the first game of the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament on Saturday morning at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Spots Complex.

Benedictine (24-16) used a six-run second inning to take the lead that included homeruns from Dan Zust and Kevin Hendricks.



After Concordia-Chicago (32-9) scored one run in the bottom fo the frame, the Eagles tallied another run in the third when Zust doubled donw the right field line to score Chris Wanderling who walked earlier in the inning.

Josh Zenawick drove in another run for BenU in the fourth and he would have a two-run homer in the 6th to give the Eagles an 11-3 lead. The Eagles would secure the run-rule victory after scoring two more runs off of four hits in the seventh for the 13-3 win.

Kevin Crownely received the win for the Eagles, allowing just three earned runs with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings. At the plate, the Eagles were 17-35 as a team with Nick Karakosta going 4-5 with two runs scored and Zust going 3-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. Uli Ortiz was 2-4 while Zenawick and Tom Higgins were 2-4 as well.



Benedictine will take on the winner of the No. 2 Aurora University vs. No. 3 Concordia University-Wisconsin at 3:00 p.m. at Aurora University.
