LISLE, Ill. – The Benedictine University softball team won the Northern Athletics Conference championship on Tuesday night after coming from behind to defeat Aurora University, 6-5, in the second game. The Eagles lost the first game 10-2.
In the nightcap, Aurora (31-9, 21-3 NAC) scored five runs in the first two innings to take a 5-1 lead. After three scoreless innings for both teams, the Eagles scored five runs off of three hits including singles from
Brittany Wolski and a pair of two-run singles from
Kara Walsh and
Cassie Cappetto.
In the top of the seventh, the Spartans had runners on first and second with two outs before
Sam Corban froze the final Aurora batter for the 6-5 win and the NAC championship.
Corban received the win for BenU, giving up seven hits and striking out three batters in 7.0 innings. At the plate, Wolski was 2-4 and Cappetto was 1-3.
Aurora's bats were on fire in the first game as they out-hit the Eagles 13-5.
Brittany Adcox received the loss, allowing 10 hits and had five strikeouts in 3.2 innings.
Benedictine will travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to compete in the NAC Tournament on Friday, May 6 for a 9:00 a.m. game against the winner of No. 4 Dominican University and No. 5 Lakeland College. For more information on the tournament, please visit the Northern Athletics Conference website at
