Baseball Splits with Sabres

 
FON DU LAC, Wis. – The Benedictine University baseball team split a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon, falling 5-4 in the first game but defeating Marian University 10-1 in game two.
 
The Eagles allowed two Marian runs in the bottom of the first but answered back in the fifth scoring three runs of their own to take a 3-2 lead.
 
In the seventh, the Sabres used two hits to score three runs to regain the lead. Benedictine scored one run in the ninth but left two runners stranded as they fell 5-4.
 
Matt Strle received the loss for BenU, allowing two hits and had three strikeouts in 2.0 innings. Matt Vucovich pitched 6.0 innings allowing five hits and throwing seven strikeouts. At the plate, Josh Zenawick was 2-3 with two RBI while Dan Zust was 2-3 with a run scored.
 
In the second game, Marian once again took an early 1-0 lead in the first but the Eagles used five hits in the second to take an 8-1 lead, including a two-run single from Chris Wanderling and a three-run homerun from Zenawick.
 
The Eagles would score another run in the fifth and one more in the ninth to take home the 10-1 lead. On the mound, Phil Palmisano allowed six hits with three strikeouts in 6.2 innings for the win. Zenawick was 3-5 with three RBI while Zust was 2-4.
 
Benedictine baseball is back in action on Wednesday, May 4 for a 6:00 p.m. game against North Central College at the Sports Complex.
