MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Down 2-1 in the bottom fo the seventh inning, the No. 1 Benedictine University softball team scored two runs to lift them to a 3-2 victory over No. 5 Lakeland College on Friday morning at the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament.
Steff Rybarczyk led off the seventh with a single through the left side and advanced when
Jess Fijolek reached on an error by the Lakeland third baseman.
Laura Christensen advanced the runners with a sac bunt and with two outs,
Brittany Wolski reached on another error by the LC third baseman, allowing one run to score, tying the game. A throwing error by Lakeland allowed the winning run to score and end the game.
The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Kara Walsh drove in Wolski. Lakeland tied the game in the sixth off of two hits and took the lead in the top of the seventh with a homerun to center field from Chelsea Gile.
The two runs in the bottom of the frame gave the Eagles the 3-2 win.
Brittany Adcox picked up the win, allowing one earned run with seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings. At the plate, Adcox and Christensen were 2-2.
The Eagles will take on No. 2 Aurora University at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning at Alverno Field.
