FOND du LAC, Wis. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team out-scored Marian University 33-28 in the second half, but dropped a 67-61 decision to the Sabres on Saturday afternoon after trailing by as many as 18 in the first half.
Marian (10-6, 6-4 NAC) out-scored the Eagles (4-11, 1-7 NAC) 39-28 in the first half, taking an 18-point lead with five minutes to go. A three-pointer by
Vincenza Ranallo put the Eagles to within six but Marian ended the half with an 11-point lead.
In the second half, BenU came within nine points and after a three-pointer from
Michelle Gaede the Eagles were down by six.
Tracey Walsh put the Eagles within six and the BenU momentum kept going with back-to-back buckets from
Katie Hunzinger and Megan Novak to put the Eagles with in two points.
Marian responded with a three-pointer and sank three free-throws to take home the 67-61 victory.
Walsh led all players with 22 points while Hunzinger scored 13 points and had seven rebounds. As a team, BenU out-rebounded the Sabres 34-32 and forced 22 turnovers on 13 steals.
The women's basketball team is back in action on Wednesday, January 18 when they travel to Rockford College for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
