AURORA, Ill. - The Benedictine University softball team opened up Northern Athletics Conference action with two wins over rival Aurora University on Wednesday afternoon. Benedictine took game one, 1-0, and beat the Spartans, 2-1, in the second game.
Brittany Adcox picked up the win in game one, holding the Spartans (3-9, 0-2 NAC) scoreless on the mound, allowing just three hits and striking out four in seven innings of action.
Benedictine (6-6, 2-0 NAC) scored in the third inning when
Kara Walsh scored
Kelly Mieszala for the only run of the game.
Brittany Wolski had two hits while
Laura Christensen,
Nikki Powers and
Chelsea White each had a hit.
In the nightcap, the Eagles scored first after tallying a run in the second inning with hits from
Jess Fijolek and Christensen. Aurora tied the game in the fourth when Wilcox doubled down the line and scored on a sac fly from Spencer.
Kara Walsh led off the sixth inning for BenU and advanced to second on a sac bunt from Powers. Fijolek scored the winning run with a single up the middle. The Spartans had two more chances to tie the game but
Eryn Pondo held AU scoreless to take home the 2-1 victory.
In seven innings, Pondo held the Spartans to just one hit with four strikeouts. Fijolek led the offense with two hits.
The Eagles continue NAC play on Saturday, March 31 when they travel to Milwaukee School of Engineering for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
