LISLE, Ill. - Despite owning a 9-2 lead after four innings of play, the Benedictine University softball team allowed Elmhurst College to score eight runs in the fifth inning to take a 10-9 lead. The Eagles rallied back in the bottom of the frame with four runs of their own to eventually take home the 13-11 victory. The second game of the doubleheader was called due to a power outage on campus.
After two scoreless innings, Benedictine (17-8) scored five runs in the third inning off of five hits including doubles from
Kelly Mieszala and
Nikki Powers. Elmhurst (18-7) tallied a run in the third and the fourth but the Eagles offense was on a roll, scoring four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
After the EC eight-run fifth inning, BenU scored four more runs to take a 13-10 lead. The Bluejays gave BenU a scare in the sixth, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles won the game, 13-11.
Brittany Adcox received the win, her 11th of the year. At the plate, Wolski was 2-3 with three runs scored.
Kara Walsh and Powers were both 2-3 with Powers tallying three RBI and
Sarah Koch 2-4 with three RBI.
Jess Fijolek tallied two hits and two RBI while
Chelsea White had two hits in four at-bats. As a team, the Eagles had 16 hits.
Due to a power outage on the campus of Benedictine, game two was cut short due to darkness.
BenU softball is back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Alverno College at 12:00 p.m. at the Sports Complex.
