BenU Defeats Alverno, Wolski Ties All-Time NAC Record

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University softball team extended their win streak to nine games with a sweep over Alverno College in Northern Athletics Conference play. The Eagles took game one by a score of 7-1 then defeated the Inferno, 9-0, in the nightcap.

Kelly Loy picked up the win in the first game, allowing just four hits with three strikeouts in seven innings. At the plate, Brittany Wolski was 2-4 while Nikki Powers was 2-2 and Jess Fijolek was 2-3.

Alverno (11-15, 6-8 NAC) was first to score in the top of the second but the Eagles (19-8, 11-1 NAC) quickly took the lead with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. After scoring two runs in the third and fourth, BenU secured their victory with three runs in the sixth for the 7-1 win.

In game two, Benedictine scored one run in the second and had a monster third inning, scoring eight runs off of nine hits including a two-RBI double from Sarah Koch. Brittany Adcox and the BenU defense would hold AC scoreless for the 9-0 shutout.

On the mound, Adcox allowed three hits with five strikeouts. Wolski had two hits which puts her at 211 hits in her career, tying the all-time hits record for the Northern Athletics Conference.

Kara Walsh was 2-3 and Laura Christensen was 1-2 with two RBI.

The Eagles are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Rockford College for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
