LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University softball team extended their win streak to 11 games when they swept Concordia University-Chicago on Tuesday night in the Sports Complex. The Eagles took game one, 6-0, and edged the Cougars in game two, 2-1.
In the first game, the Eagles tallied nine hits including two hits from
Kelly Mieszala and
Brittany Adcox. After going up 3-0 in the first inning, the Eagles tallied two more runs in the third. Still holding the Cougars scoreless, BenU scored one run in the fourth for the 6-0 victory.
On the mound, Adcox allowed four hits while striking out four batters in 7.0 innings of action.
It was Concordia-Chicago who would score first in game two, taking the 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Eagles tied the game in the third inning on a run by
Brittany Wolski but both teams would remain scoreless through the next four innings. In extra innings, the BenU offense rallied and scored the winning run on a single down the left field line from
Nikki Powers for the 2-1 victory.
Eryn Pondo started the game for the Eagles, allowing seven hits with two strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Adcox came in for the final 1.2 innings and picked up her 14th win of the year.
With her three hits in the series, Wolski is the Northern Athletics Conference all-time hits leader. The senior shorstop currently has 216 hits in her career.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Rockford College for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
