ROCKFORD, Ill. - After defeating Rockford College in a 9-1, five-inning first game, the Benedictine University softball team went on to beat the Regents 5-2 in the nightcap of a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader on Wednesday evening. The Eagles extend their winning streak to 13 games.
After a scoreless first inning, The Eagles (23-8, 15-1 NAC) tallied four runs in the second. Rockford (7-21, 2-12 NAC) answered back with their only run of the game in the bottom of the frame. Benedictine's offense would continue to roll, scoring in the third and fifth innings to secure the 9-1 win.
Kelly Mieszala was 3-3 with a triple and three RBI.
Brittany Wolski, who recently broke the NAC all-time hits record, was a perfect 4-4 with a doule and five RBI.
Kara Walsh and
Nikki Powers had two hits. On the mound,
Brittany Adcox allowed just three hits while striking out two batters. The win moves Adcox to 15-3 on the year.
In the second game, BenU scored two runs in the top of the first and another run in the third to take the 3-0 lead. Rockford cut their deficit to just one after two runs in the bottom of the inning. Both teams would remain scoreless through the seventh until the Eagles scored two runs.
Eryn Pondo and the Eagle defense held RC scoreless in the bottom of the frame to take home the 5-2 victory.
Ponod allowed just five hits with four strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Wolski was 2-4 at the plate while Adcox had three hits with an RBI. Walsh tallied three RBI off of two hits and
Laura Christensen was 3-3.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday afternoon when they host Maranatha Baptist Bible College at 3:00 p.m.
Don't forget that Saturday, April 21 is Get Your Red On. All fans are asked to wear red to the game to support the BenU softball and baseball teams. The softball team is at 12:00 pm against Edgewood College and the baseball team hosts Marian University at 1:00 pm. The athletic department will be hosting a tailgate beginning at 11:00 am in the Rice Center parking lot.
