LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University softball team swept Wisconsin Lutheran College on Friday morning in Northern Athletics Conference action. The Eagles allowed just one hit in both games after
Brittany Adcox pitched a one-hitter while freshman
Eryn Pondo pitched a perfect five-inning game.
In game one, Adcox was perfect on the mound until the sixth inning when she allowed a triple by WLC's (7-11, 2-4 NAC) Mindy Schalinske. The senior hurler, now 8-3 on the season, had a season high eight strikeouts, facing 21 batters.
The Eagles (12-8, 7-1 NAC) scored a run in the first inning when
Kelly Mieszala led off with a double to left field. After advancing to third she scored on an RBI from Adcox. Benedictine picked up their final run in the sixth inning after
Sarah Koch singled through the left side then stole second.
Lucy Poro pinch ran for Koch and scored after
Jess Fijolek singled.
Brittany Wolski led BenU with two hits in game one.
In game two, BenU took an early 6-0 lead in the first inning off of two hits and one WLC error. In the second, another Warrior error proved fatal as the Eagles scored three more runs off of three hits. Benedictine tallied their final run of the game in the third inning after a Wolski RBI-single.
Pondo was perfect on the mound for the Eagles, striking out five batters in five innings. The freshman pitcher moves to 3-2 on the year.
Benedictine softball is back in action on Monday afternoon when they host a non-conference doubleheader against Cardinal Stritch beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Sports Complex.
