Men’s Lacrosse Defeats Beloit

Box Score The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead on Wednesday night and never relinquished it, defeating Beloit 14-11 on a chilly night at the Sports Complex.

BenU started the game on a 6-0 run, highlighted by two goals and two assists from Andrew Zmijewski. After Beloit went on a 3-1 run of their own, the Eagles had a successful penalty kill despite being down three men. Benedictine would score three of the half's final four goals to take a 9-4 halftime lead. The Buccaneers would outscore BenU 4-2 in the second half, but the Eagles defense held strong in the final seconds to preserve the win.

Connor Mersch led the Eagles with five goals and three assists. Tyler Buschow had his season-high in goals with four, while Zmijeswki and Robert Abbott added two goals of their own. Abbott also recorded a game-high 17 ground balls and was 15-for-19 on faceoffs. Jeffrey Smitheram stopped nine shots in net.

Next up for men's lacrosse is a trip to the University of Notre Dame, where they will kick-off a stretch of seven straight games away from home. They'll face Trine University in a neutral site game at 2:00 p.m.
