CLERMONT, Fla. - After dropping a 9-1 decision to Wesleyan University, the Benedictine University softball team used a four-run second inning to defeat University of Massachusetts-Boston 13-6 on Wednesday afternoon.
Kelly Loy picked up the win for the Eagles against UMB, pitching four innings while
Ashley Parrott and
Eryn Pondo both came in to finish the game.
The Eagles knocked in four runs in the second and two in the third. UMass scored five runs in the fifth to make the game close but BenU's offense wouldn't quit, scoring two more in the fifth and four in the sixth for the 13-6 victory.
Benedictine combined for 19 hits including a 4-4 performance from
Melissa Stoch and
Chelsea White. White also tallied five RBI.
Erin Kotlarz,
Sarah Koch and
Amanda Straka each had two hits while
Alyssa Dorchak was 3-4.
Against Wesleyan, the Eagles struggled offensively, tallying just four hits including a two-hit performance from Koch. The Eagles did score one run in the fourth when
Kailee Cable led off the inning with a double and scored on another double from Koch.
The Eagles are back in action on Thursday morning when they take on Bethany College and Tufts University at 8:00 am and 10:00 am (CST).
