MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team won its second consecutive contest by taking down MSOE 16-6 on the road Saturday.
Andrew Zmijewski opened the scoring with 8:20 to play in the opening quarter. MSOE tied the game with a goal on a man up opportunity. Back-to-back goals in the final three minutes put Benedictine ahead 3-1 after the first.
A huge second quarter put Benedictine in command. The Eagles scored six goals to grab a 9-1 lead at the break. Only
Robert Abbott netted more than one goal in the quarter as five different individuals scored.
Tyler Buschow and
Connor Mersch scored early in the third to extend the lead to 11-1. MSOE stopped the run of 10 consecutive goals but could pull no closer than nine the rest of the game.
Benedictine held a 48-21 edge in shots and controlled 35 groundballs in the win.
Jeffrey Smitheram deflected six shots in earning the win in goal. Mersch finished with four goals and added three assists. Buschow and
Eric Orndorf added three each. Seven individuals scored at least one goal.
Benedictine (4-5, 2-1) returns to action at Carthage on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
