LISLE, Ill. - To open up Northern Athletics Conference play, the Benedictine University softball team split with Aurora University on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Spartans 6-1 but dropping an 8-2 decision in the nightcap.
The Ealges (5-7, 1-1 NAC) tallied 11 hits in the game.
Sarah Koch was 2-3 with a double and two runs scored while both
Kelly Mieszala and
Kailee Cable were 2-4 with an RBI.
Benedictine took an early 3-0 lead and never looked back, scoring one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Melissa Guzior picked up her third win of the year, allowing six hits with two strikeouts and just one earned run.
In the second game, both teams were scoreless through three innings. Aurora (9-3, 1-1 NAC) tallied two runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. The Eagles threatened to score several times in those innings but always came up short. The Spartans added four more runs to their lead but the Eagles answered back with two of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning when
Amanda Straka singled to left field, scoring
Kailee Cable.
Alyssa Dorchak singled to the pitcher, scoring the final run of the inning.
The Aurora defense held strong in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 8-2 victory.
Cable was 2-4 with a run scored while
Alex Daviera and Straka were 2-3.
Eryn Pondo received the loss for BenU, allowing three hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts.
Benedictine is back in action on Monday, April 1 when they host Wheaton College at 3:00 p.m. at the Sports Complex.
