ELMHURST, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team netted 10 second half goals to put away Elmhurst and win on the road 16-6.
Elmhurst scored the first goal of the game at the midway point of the first quarter before three consecutive tallies put Benedictine in front. Elmhurst was able to even the game with back-to-back goals at the start of the second quarter before Benedictine rattled off three straight to lead 6-3 at the half. Two of the goals came from
Rudy Berg.
The scoring streak reached four when
Connor Mersch scored his second of the game to make the lead 7-3 in the first two minutes of the second half. Following an Elmhurst goal, Benedictine scored four in a row to open an 11-4 edge headed to the fourth. The Eagles outscored Elmhurst 10-3 in the second half, finishing the game with a flurry of four straight goals to account for the final.
Benedictine recorded 51 shots and scooped 41 groundballs. The Eagles won 19 faceoffs as
Robert Abbott was a perfect 10-for-10. Mersch and
Tyler Buschow both recorded three goals with Mersch adding a pair of assists. Eight different individuals scored a goal in the contest.
Jeffrey Smitheram stopped 12 shots in goal.
Benedictine (5-6, 3-2) will look for two in a row in Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. home affair against Defiance.
