LISLE, Ill - The Benedictine University softball team collected 24 hits on Sunday afternoon to complete a sweep of Rockford College in Northern Athletics Conference action.
The wins moved the Eagles to 12-10 on the season and 7-3 in NAC play.
Both teams were scoreless through two and a half innings until
Kelly Mieszala tripled in the third inning followed by a
Chelsea White sac fly to give them a 2-0 lead. The BenU offense came alive again in the fifth when
Ashley Parrott, Mieszala and
Erin Kotlarz led off the inning with singles and were driven in by White,
Kailee Cable and
Melissa Stoch. Rockford (3-19, 1-9 NAC) recorded one run in the seventh but it wasn't enough as the Eagles went on to win 6-1.
Melissa Guzior received the win in game one, with four strikeouts in seven innings. Kotlarz, Koch and Parrott each had two hits while Mieszala was 3-3 with two runs and an RBI.
It was Rockford who got on the board first in the second game, taking a 2-0 lead on four hits and one BenU error. The Eagles answered back to take the 3-2 lead in the bottom of the frame on two hits from
Alex Daviera and Parrott.
The Eagles scored a pair of runs in the second inning with help from
Nikki Powers and Kotlarz. Daviera led off the third with a single and scored ona triple down the left field line from Parrott. MIeszala drove in the final run of the inning when she missed a homerun by an inch, tripling to right field.
After scoring a pair of runs in the next two innings, it was Stoch who ended the game for BenU when she homered to left center field, scoring Cable who had leff off with a single to make it 11-3 Eagles.
Kotlarz tallied three hits with two runs while Cable was 2-4 with two RBI. Parrott, who came in to pitch in relief, was 2-3 with two RBI and also had two strikeouts in four innings.
The Eagles continue NAC play when they travel to Wisconsin Lutheran College on Monday afternoon for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
