RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Benedictine University softball team split with Concordia University-Chicago on Tuesday afternoon, dropping the first game 4-3 but winning the nightcap 13-1 in five innings.
Both teams were tied at one after four innings but it was CUC (10-17, 7-7 NAC) who took the lead with a three-run homerun in the fifth inning.
Amanda Straka did her best to give the Eagles (15-11, 11-3) a win when she hit a two-run homer in the seventh, scoring
Alex Daviera who had singled earlier in the inning but it wasn't enough as CUC went on to win 4-3.
Melissa Guzior had two strikeouts in six innings, allowing 10 hits. Straka was 2-3 with three RBI while
Kailee Cable was 1-3 with a run scored.
The Eagle offense was lights out in the second game, tallying 13 runs on 11 hits. With a 5-0 lead after three innings, Cable and Daviera doubled to give BenU the 11-0 lead heading into the fifth. Cable added to that lead in the fifth with her second homerun of the season.
Concordia tallied a run in the fifth but could not overcome their deficit, falling 13-1 to Benedictine.
Chelsea White was 2-2 with four runs while
Erin Kotlarz was 2-4 with two runs scored. Cable had six RBI while Daviera and Straka combined for two hits each and five RBI.
Ashley Parrott picked up the win, striking out three and giving up just two hits in 5.0 innings.
The Eagles are back in action this Friday when they travel to Maranatha Baptist Bible College for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
