LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University baseball team finished off a season sweep of Wheaton College with a 10-0 eight-inning victory on Thursday night.
Wheaton used 10 pitchers in the contest, and Benedictine grabbed control with a five-run second.
John Cervantes opened the inning with a single and
Ryan Mullin followed with a double.
Tim Gindville lifted a sacrifice fly to put Benedictine on the board. The other runs in the inning scored on an RBI single from
Justin Kovalsky, a
Tim Hendricks bases loaded walk, a
Nick Karakosta RBI single, and a
Kevin Hendricks sacrifice fly.
The Eagles would add three runs in the third and a single tally in the fourth before ending the game with a two-out run in the bottom of the eighth.
Benedictine slugged 11 hits in the win, with eight different individuals posting hits. Kovalsky, starting for the first time this season, finished 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs. Mullin also posted a pair of hits. The run support helped
Ty Anderson improve to 3-1 this season. Anderson tossed seven shutout frames, allowing just five hits while striking out five. The contest was a make-up from Tuesday when rain forced the postponement.
Benedictine (24-7) will travel to Lakeland on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader at 12:00 p.m.
