LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team capped a successful inaugural season with an 18-12 home win over Hanover to finish .500 in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference.
Benedictine busted open the game by scoring seven consecutive goals from the first quarter through the second. Hanover netted a man-up goal to jump ahead 2-1 but
Rudy Berg scored moments later to even the game. Berg's goal was the first of four in just over two minutes to close the first.
Zachary MacLachlan finished the seven goal stretch with an even strength goal with 10:47 left in the first half. Benedictine led 11-4 at the break.
Hanover scored three consecutive goals to open the third quarter, pulling within 11-7. MacLachlan's fifth goal of the game provided some space and the Eagles went on to lead by as many as eight goals in the victory.
Benedictine won despite being outshot 49-46 in the contest. The Eagles were successful on 18 clears.
Connor Mersch also scored five goals in the victory, finishing the year with 41 tallies.
Rudy Berg scored three times and
Robert Abbott added a pair to go with two assists.
Jeffrey Smitheram stopped 19 shots in goal.
Benedictine closed the year with a 7-9 record and a 5-5 mark in conference play.
