Box Score 2 Benedictine softball closed out the regular season with two victoriesover a conference foe on Saturday at the Sports Complex, defeating the Lakeland Musikes 4-3 in eight innings and 11-0 in five innings.
The Eagles had to come from behind to win game one, as Lakeland got on the board first with three runs in the fourth inning. However, Benedictine would respond.
Kailee Cable drove in two runs in the fifth inning on a single and
Kelly Mieszala tied the game with a single in the bottom of the seventh. In the eighth, an errant throw from the Lakeland outfield after a
Nikki Powers single allowed
Amanda Straka to score all the way from first base, giving BenU the walk-off win.
Melissa Guzior picked up her 12th win on the season, going all eight innings and walking just one batter. At the plate,
Chelsea White went 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot and
Erin Kotlarz had three sacrafice bunts in the two-hole.
Things went a bit more smoothly for the Eagles in game two, as the team tallied four runs in each of the first two innings en route to an 11-0 victory.
Ashley Parrott moved to a perfect 5-0 on the season, allowing just three hits and one walk over four innings. At the plate,
Alex Daviera went 2-for-2 with four RBIs and Cable was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.
It was also Senior Day for the Eagles, as the team honored its two seniors,
Lucy Poro and
Ashley Parrott, for all of the hard work they have put into the program.
The next time Softball takes the field will be in the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament, which begins on Thursday. Benedictine has earned the tournament's second seed after finishing the year with a 20-4 NAC record.
