Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Benedictine University baseball team rallied to secure a key 5-4 non-conference win over Washington University in St. Louis on Tuesday night.
Washington built up a 4-0 lead which could have been more, but with the bases loaded in the third, Benedictine turned a triple play. The Eagles began to rally in the sixth with a single run on a
Steve Cocat sacrifice fly. Benedictine tied the game against the bullpen with three runs in the seventh.
Brandon Clark knocked an RBI single and
Ryan Mullin evened the game with a two-run double. The momentum continued into the eighth when
Tim Hendricks put Benedictine ahead for the first time with an RBI single.
Matt Vucovich struck out five in four innings and allowed just one earned run but
Ty Anderson collected the win, piggybacking that start with three innings, striking out three.
Spencer Lehmann collected his fourth save by striking out two in the ninth.
Offensively, Benedictine totaled 12 hits with five individuals posting two hits each.
Nick Karakosta did not reach base, snapping a 35-game streak.
The game was played at Illinois Wesleyan University as a halfway point for the two schools. Washington (22-15) was regionally ranked in the Central region.
Benedictine (28-8) will close out the regular season on Saturday with a doubleheader at Rockford.
