Baseball Matches School Record

Box Score

MEQUON, Wis. - The Benedictine University baseball team matched a school record for wins in a season with a 5-0 shutout of Aurora in the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament on Friday.

Benedictine scored twice in the bottom of the first inning to score more than enough for Pat Cashman. With one away Nick Karakosta reached on an error. Kevin Hendricks was hit by a pitch and John Cervantes put Benedictine ahead with a double to deep left-center. Mike Luschen extended the lead to 2-0 with two outs on an infield single.

Cashman was on cruise control after allowing a leadoff single, the righty retired 13 in a row and faced the minimum over five straight frames. Cashman threw eight blank innings and allowed just three hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

Benedictine added single runs in the second, fourth, sixth to account for the final margin. Kevin Hendricks finished 3-for-4 while Karakosta, Cervantes, and Luschen posted two apiece. Cervantes drove home two runs. The shutout marked the fifth of the season for Benedictine and the second for Cashman.

Benedictine (32-8) will face top seeded Concordia Chicago on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. for a slot in the conference championship game. The Eagles swept the Cougars earlier this season.
