WHITEWATER, Wis. - After taking Illinois Wesleyan University into extra innings, the Benedictine University softball team dropped a 5-1 decision to University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Friday afternoon to end their season in the second game of the NCAA DIII Softball Regional Tournament.
The Eagles finished the year with a 27-15 record and are three-time consecutive winners of the Northern Athletics Conference Championship.
Against Eau Claire, BenU gave up three runs in the first on a three-run homer. The Blugolds tallied another run in the second to take the 4-0 lead.
Both teams remained scoreless until the fifth when the Eagles got on the board after a
Melissa Stoch single and an
Amanda Straka double put cut the Eagles deficit to 4-1. Eau Claire scored again in the seventh to secure the 5-1 victory.
Stoch was 2-3 in the loss while Straka was 1-3.
Melissa Guzior pitched 2.0 innings while
Ashley Parrott allowed four hits and one strikeout in 5.0 innings.
