MILWAUKEE, Wis. - After taking a 4-0 lead over Aurora University, the Benedictine University softball team held off the Spartan offense to take home the 4-3 victory and advance to the Northern Athletics Conference Championship on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles look to claim their third championship in as many years. Benedictine will face the winner of Aurora and Concordia University-Wisconsin on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at Alverno Field in Milwaukee.
The Benedictine (26-12) offense came alive in the first three innings. After a
Kailee Cable walk,
Kelly Mieszala recorded her first homerun of the season to put the Eagles up 2-0.
Alex Daviera added to the lead with a homerun of her own and
Eryn Pondo also homered in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead after three.
The Aurora (35-5) offense would not stay quiet, scoring a run in the fourth and then two more in the fifth. Both teams remained scoreless the next two innings to give BenU the 4-3 win.
Mieszala, Daviera and Pondo each had homeruns while
Ashley Parrott was 2-3 on the day.
Melissa Guzior recorded her 14th win of the year throwing a complete game allowing just two earned runs and one strikeout.
The Eagles will play the winner of Aurora and Concordia-Wisconsin on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
