KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Blake Anders reeled in a pair of 40+ yard touchdowns to help the Benedictine University football team score a 28-23 win over Kalamazoo College on Saturday afternoon in the first road game of the year.
Both teams spent a majority of the first half feeling each other out.
Michael McNulty scored the lone first half touchdown for Benedictine, plunging in from two yards out with 9:54 to play in the half to tie the game.
Kalamazoo kicked a 26-yard field goal with 4:34 to play in the third to go back in front at 10-7, but Benedictine reeled off three consecutive touchdowns to open a 28-10 lead. Anders reeled in his first score with 1:49 left in the third, scoring on a 47-yard pass.
Quarterback
Cyle Schultz snuck in from five yards out midway through the fourth before a quick three and out allowed Schultz to hook up with Anders again from 43 yards out less than two minutes later for the final score of the day. The host Hornets tallied a pair of touchdowns in the final four minutes to make the contest close.
Kalamazoo reeled up over 400 yards of offense in the game. Neither team turned the ball over. Anders caught seven passes for 173 yards. Schultz finished the game 18-for-31 through the air, accumulating 247 yards.
Ryan Stec paced the defense with 13 tackles and a sack. Nick Dotellis added 11 stops.
Benedictine (2-1) is idle until opening conference play on October 5 at preseason favorite Concordia Wisconsin.
