With the weather conditions postponing Tuesday's contest, the Benedictine University women's basketball team has yet to play a game this week. The team's only contest of the week will come on
Saturday at 4:15 p.m, as the Eagles will head up to Mequon, Wisconsin to take on the Falcons of Concordia-Wisconsin.
Concordia-Wisconsin (11-1, 8-1) figures to be a very tough opponent, as the Falcons lead the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and have already beaten Benedictine this season. Back on December 7 at the Dan and Ada Rice Center, the Falcons defeated BenU 83-59 behind a 47-26 first half in which the team shot over 61 percent from the floor. Four Falcons scored in double figures in that contest, including freshman Tori Riechers (13.2ppg, 6.2rpg), who was named NACC Player of the Week for December 30-January 5 after tallying 29 points and 15 rebounds in a victory over Rockford last Saturday.
In addition to Riechers, BenU will also have to key on two additional post players: senior Katie Luethe (14.6ppg, 7.2rpg) and sophomore Megan Coenen (12.2ppg, 7.7rpg). The three combined for 46 points and 22 rebounds in the December meeting and are the conference's second-leading rebounding trio at 21.1 boards per contest.
Benedictine (5-7, 5-2) now sits in fourth place in the NACC after winning at Marian 74-60 on Saturday, the team's first game since the trip to Daytona Beach the weekend before Christmas. Junior guard
Meghan Novak (12.5ppg) had a season-high 22 points in the victory behind a 9-for-11 effort from the free throw line, while junior guard
Vincenza Ranallo (12.8ppg, 5.8rpg) added 16 points. Off the bench, junior point guard
Michelle Batty (4.6ppg, 2.4rpg) added a season-high 12 points and six rebounds while shooting a perfect 4-for-4 both from the field and the charity stripe, and sophomore forward
Briana Hamilton (9.6ppg, 4.8rpg) had 11 points of her own.
