LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team cruised to a 65-44 win over Marian University on Saturday night.
Benedictine used a 15-0 run early to grab control of the contest.
Meghan Novak opened the run with a jumper and
Michelle Gaede drained a three to finish the run, making the score 21-8 with 10:48 left. Marian came back, evening the game at 23 with 4:33 to play in the half. The Eagles responded with six straight and quickly jumped back in front, leading by seven at the break, 33-26.
Marian made only four field goals in the second half as the Benedictine defense limited the visitors to just 14.8 percent shooting. Benedictine jumped in front by 16 with 13:14 remaining in the game and slowly distanced the advantage to the final margin in the closing minute.
Briana Hamilton led the offensive attack with 15 points off the bench. The bench scored 31 points in the contest.
Vincenza Ranallo reeled in a game high 14 rebounds as the Eagles held a 49-34 advantage on the glass. Novak finished with 10.
Benedictine (6-9, 6-4) hosts Aurora on Tuesday.
